Blue Scoop Creamery : The Sweetness of Community
When Kim Rhodes thinks about her childhood in Kentucky, the memories come wrapped in the sweet aroma of ice cream and community. In the South, ice cream shops were not just places to grab a cone. They were places where families created traditions, teens bonded over milkshakes, and milestones were celebrated with scoops of pure joy. That spirit inspired Kim and eventually her husband Chris to open Blue Scoop Creamery in 2020.
Born and raised in Kentucky, Kim's love for Southern style ice cream was built on mix-ins aplenty and exceeding creaminess. After earning her master’s in business and spending over 20 years in corporate marketing, she took what she jokingly called a midlife crisis and turned it into a sweet new venture: a scoop shop rooted in community, family values, and decadent nostalgia.
Chris, who brings Midwestern roots from Cleveland and a serious passion for quality, shared Kim’s dream from the start. When they moved to Southern California, the couple saw a gap in the market. The local ice cream offerings, like Baskin Robbins and frozen yogurt, just did not live up to the Southern style treat she craved.
With their three kids Theo, Abby, and Olivia by their side, they built more than just a scoop shop. Blue Scoop Creamery is a labor of love, family, and community.
True to its name, Blue Scoop Creamery (a nod to Kentucky’s Bluegrass State) crafts everything from scratch. Their ice cream, cakes, cookies, and sauces are all house made with premium, natural ingredients. Cow’s milk from San Jacinto Valley and vegan alternatives ensure there is something for everyone.
Flavors rotate weekly or monthly, offering delightful twists like Carrot Cake, Churro Horchata, and Pumpkin Chai, alongside playful Southern style creations like Pistachio Watergate jam packed with pineapple, pecans, and marshmallows. Classics like Twin Mint, PB Situation, Movie Munchies, Grape Nuts, Candy Cane Cookie Cheesecake, Almond Chip (vegan), and the ever popular Bourbon Ball add to the delicious lineup.
Yes, the ice cream is homemade. Yes, the flavors are seasonal, creative, and crafted with care. But what really sets Blue Scoop Creamery apart is the atmosphere. It is a place where birthdays are celebrated, pinball high scores are chased, and smiles are shared over waffle cones and cups full of flavor.
It is not just about what is in the bowl. It is about the experience that comes with it.
Whether you are dropping in for an after school treat, hosting a party, or just chasing that perfect scoop on a sunny afternoon, Blue Scoop Creamery is designed to feel like home. Welcoming. Joyful. Full of sweet traditions and new memories waiting to be made.
In a world that often moves too fast, this neighborhood shop is a reminder to slow down, savor the moment, and celebrate the little things with sprinkles on top.
