Meredith Whitney: Hears What Our Pets Can’t Say

The room went quiet in that funny way it does when an animal decides to run the show.

Meredith Whitney closed her eyes, took a breath, and said hello to Toast, Katie’s rescue pup with soft eyes and teenage-boy energy. She asked for permission to speak with him. A pause, then a simple “yes.”

What followed was a stream of tiny truths. Toast loves car rides, but only with the windows down so he can feel the wind on his face. He loves to jump on the bed, play fetch (but only on his own terms), and chase toys he has no intention of returning. His hip twinges when he runs too fast. He adores vanilla ice cream and blueberries. And when Meredith asked if he had any requests, he was clear: more walks, more freedom, more time running off-leash.

Meredith calls her process “mind to mind, heart to heart, soul to soul.” During a session, she receives pictures, sensations, emotions, and words like short films that play inside her mind. Sometimes she hears the animal in her own inner voice. Other times, it’s theirs.

When Toast shared memories of life on the street, Meredith said he showed her flashes of fear and kindness, people who chased him and others who offered food. He didn’t want to linger on the past, though. He’s focused on the life he has now, curling up beside Katie’s husband on the couch, nervous around big dogs since an encounter with a husky, and deeply loved.

Then came the line that stopped us. Toast said he could help Katie with her business. He knows she wants to go full-time and work for herself. Meredith smiled knowingly. Pets, she says, tune into our energy and thoughts more than we realize. “They know how we’re feeling, whether we’re happy or sad, even what’s going on at work,” she told us. “They’re connected to us all the time.”

Meredith’s intuitive journey began when she was a kid showing jumpers. Her horse sent her images mid-ride, flashes of feeling and sight she couldn’t explain. She brushed it off as imagination until years later, when the visions returned stronger than ever: faces in mirrors, whispers, energy in every room. Overwhelmed, she turned to a trusted friend who simply held her hands and said, “You’re psychic. You’re going to help people and animals.”

That moment reframed everything.

It wasn’t an easy road. She met skepticism, misunderstanding, and outright criticism, but she chose to keep going. She built a website, studied, practiced, and found a community of other intuitives who encouraged her to trust her gift. “People either say it’s cool,” she laughs, “or they tell me I’m talking to the devil. I just focus on the work.”

Meredith now offers one-on-one private sessions, psychic-medium readings, and classes that teach others how to open their own intuitive channels. “Anyone can learn to communicate with their animals,” she says. “You just have to quiet the noise and trust the first thing that comes through.”

Her favorite teaching exercise is simple: sit quietly with your animal. Tell them how much you love them. Ask one question, something light, like What’s your favorite treat? The first image or word that pops in your head, that’s the answer. “Don’t overthink it,” she says. “The first flash is the truth.”

Animals, she believes, want a voice. Sessions give them one. They ask for more play, more walks, more time near their humans, or sometimes, just space. Meredith has heard animals ask for watermelon, for new beds, or for patience. Each message strengthens the bond between people and their pets.

She doesn’t try to prove her ability. She lets the evidence speak. There was the client who mentioned monarch butterflies while talking about her late dog. Minutes after their session ended, a monarch hovered outside Meredith’s office window, perfectly still. She texted the client. The message, and the meaning, landed.

Another day, a dog described the layout of its owner’s kitchen to her over the phone, every color and corner, details Meredith couldn’t have known. When the client asked how she could possibly see it, Meredith simply said, “Your dog told me.”

When asked how she makes waves, Meredith smiled.
“I help people connect and understand their animals better,” she said. “That connection brings healing, not just to the pets, but to the people too. It brings joy back into the home.”

After our session with Toast, it was hard to disagree. His messages were simple but profound. Keep doing what you’re doing. Take me more places. Bring the ball, I might not give it back.

That’s impact you can feel in your chest, the kind that softens grief, clarifies love, and reminds us how deeply we’re all connected across every realm.
