Reflection Series: Maggie – Making Waves Behind the Scenes

Back in 2020, Maggie was one of the first people featured in the Making Waves Project. At the time, she was living alone, not by choice. Her roommates had left town early in the pandemic, and the sudden silence of her apartment made the isolation feel sharper.

“It was lonely, which is the saddest thing to say, but I think it’s super true,” she admits.

What was meant to be a quick, creative distraction, posing on her balcony in a vintage nightgown, became something more.

“It was just a moment of hope and normalcy,” she recalls. “To have someone take my photo when I wasn’t feeling particularly pretty or confident… it really meant something.”

The past five years have brought growth, challenges, and healing. Maggie’s career has taken off. She went from associate producer on Shark Tank to full-on producer across multiple unscripted shows. She has embraced therapy, faced her anxiety, and learned how to create balance in her once work-dominated life.

“I like to say I’m a recovering workaholic,” she says with a laugh. “Now I’m focusing more on relationships, friendships, dating.”

One major shift? Moving into her own apartment.

“It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” she says. “It’s my own little Barbie dream pad. I painted the walls myself, hung up all my art, it’s a reflection of me.”

That independence also gave her the confidence to take on a new kind of commitment: becoming a single dog mom. Nugget, her rescue pup with his own anxiety, has brought chaos and comfort in equal measure.

“It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever chosen to do,” she says. “But it’s also been healing in ways I didn’t expect.”

Maggie’s style and sense of self have always stood out. Bold colors. Thrifted fashion. A love of campy glam. But she admits she lost some of that spark for a while.

“I think I forgot how to love myself,” she reflects. “But I’ve been working on it. Therapy, good friends, being honest with myself, that’s helped me come back to who I am.”

Looking ahead, Maggie hopes to find a partner, maybe upgrade to a home with a yard for Nugget, and keep telling stories.

“I make waves by helping people share theirs,” she says. “That’s what I do for a living. I meet real people and help get their voices out there. And I feel really lucky I get to do that.”

As she puts it:
“I don’t always know what I’m doing. But I know I’ll figure it out. That’s kind of my superpower.”

This post was created by Making Waves Project to share real stories of strength, resilience, and community. We believe that when people open up, it creates space for connection, healing, and collective impact and we’re here to keep that going.

If you or someone you know has a story worth sharing, we’d love to hear from you. And if you're looking to get involved whether that means submitting a story, donating, or simply spreading the word…your support helps us keep these stories alive and amplify the voices within them.

These stories aren’t just reflections of individual experiences…they're reminders of what it means to belong to something bigger. A growing community. A movement grounded in purpose and shared humanity.

We also partner with brands and organizations that are committed to making a difference. By creating thoughtful, story-driven campaigns together, we’re able to fund this work and extend its reach. If that sounds like something you believe in, reach out to us at hello@makingwavesproject.com.
